Expression of Interest: Join the Bolton Early Years Physical Literacy Action Learning Group

We are thrilled to invite a small group of Early Years (EY) settings in Bolton to participate in the Physical Literacy Action Learning Group, part of the Patchwork Programme. This initiative is part of a national campaign, and Bolton has been proudly selected to represent the North West. The programme focuses on embedding Physical Literacy (PL) into EY practice to support key development milestones for children aged 0–5, including physical coordination, social-emotional skills, and communication abilities.

Why Participate?

  • Support School Readiness: Foster critical skills such as motor development, emotional resilience, and social confidence.
  • Address Key Challenges: Help reduce the gender attainment gap and support children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Enhance Practice: Gain confidence and practical tools to implement PL in daily routines and engage families in meaningful ways.

Who Can Apply?

We are looking for settings passionate about:

  • Outdoor learning
  • Reducing the gender attainment gap
    We aim to include diverse neighbourhoods and a range of ages (0–5).
  • Supporting children to have a positive relationship with movement throughout the day and throughout life.

Your Commitment

  1. Attend Key Sessions:
    • January: Introductory session (2 hours)
    • Spring Term: Co-design workshops (approximately x2)
    • September: Evaluation meeting (2 hours)
  2. Embed PL Practices: Translate PL into meaningful daily activities and routines.
  3. Family Engagement: Support families in replicating PL activities at home.
  4. Provide Data: Complete short surveys in January and September.
