Festive Safety December 2022

HLE

The NHS Healthy Families Team would like to wish all families in Bolton a happy and safe holiday. The team have collated Christmas safety information to share.

Families can find advice and links from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for households safety over the festive period.

Battery safety
This is particularly important at this time of year.  This leaflet 'Button Batteries Be Aware' from Office for Product Safety and Standards gives advice.

Toy safey
All children's toys must comply with strict safety guidance and should only be bought from reputable retailers.  Second hand toys should be checked carefully before being given to a child.  Find useful advice from RoSPA by visiting: Toy safety - RoSPA.

Christmas novelties and decorations
These are very appealing to children but are not toys and are generally not safe for children to play with.  Find out more about how these attractive novelties could cause harm if left for children to play with: Christmas decorations and novelties - RoSPA.

Festive lights and candles
Can be a beautiful way to add a festive glow to your home, but need to be used with care to prevent fires.  Take a look at this really useful guide from RoSPA: Christmas Light Safety.  Alternatively, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue have shared a helpful ECard: Help your loved ones stay safe this Christmas with fire safety e-card - Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service
