Learning and Development training offer

The Learning and Development Team have added new mental health courses to their offer which cover a variety of subjects to support mental health and wellbeing.
The training is open to all staff and practitioners who come under the umbrella of Children’s Services including:
- Schools;
- Early years, private, voluntary and independent providers;
- Start Well Centres;
- Childminders voluntary, community and faith sector; and
- Youth, play and sport.
Booking information
For any of the courses listed below, Bolton Council staff can book via Oracle self-service. All other participants should complete a nomination form.
Cancellations
To cancel, please notify the Learning and Development Team on 01204 337600 or learninganddevelopment@bolton.gov.uk
Cancellation charges are:
- Two weeks or more before the course – no charge
- Less than two weeks before the course or non-attendance – £25
IMPORTANT - If your course is free of charge and you cancel within 2 weeks or do not attend, you will be charged £25.00

Connect 5 - Making Mental Wellbeing Conversations Work - FREE
Connect 5 is a 3-session programme, underpinning the principal of “Making Every Contact Count.” The course will give you skills and confidence to have effective conversations about mental health and will equip you with tools and techniques to prevent mental health deterioration. It covers a wide range of support you would provide to people around you from identifying mental health distress to taking appropriate action to address mental health issues.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Change the way you have mental wellbeing conversations
- Understand the five areas model to a wellbeing conversation
- To practice the 3C’s of connected conversation
- Share strategies and techniques to support mental wellbeing
- Identify information of services and resources to support improved mental wellbeing
Each 3-day course take place from 9:30am - 2:30pm at Castle Hill Centre and participants must attend all three dates to complete the course. Sessions take place on the following dates:

- 27 June, 4 / 11 July 2023

5 Ways to Wellbeing - FREE
5 Ways to Wellbeing is a 1 hour introductory workshop. You only need to attend one session.
You will explore the 5 ways to wellbeing and introduce the training pathway that will be available to staff to support many aspects of wellbeing and mental health.
By the end of this course, you will:
- Have an awareness of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing
- Have an understanding of the training pathway around wellbeing and mental health

Living Life to the Full - FREE
Living Life to the Full is for anyone who wishes to improve how they feel when they are feeling low or stressed. This is a 7- session course that promotes a discovery of how to tackle a variety of problems in life.
By the end of this course you will have looked at how to:
- Understanding your feelings
- Doing things that make you feel better
- Looking after things differently
- How to fix almost everything
- Build inner confidence
- The things you do that help and the things you do that don’t
- Optional revision session
Each 7-day course takes place at Castle Hill Centre and participants must attend all seven dates to complete the course. Sessions take place on the following dates:
