Childcare Survey 2021 Coram family and childcare

Coram Family and Childcare have released their Childcare Survey 2021. This is the 21st annual survey mapping the cost and availability of childcare across Great Britain.

A copy of report can be seen here.

Overview of the reports findings

Price of childcare

  • The average price for 25 hours per week of nursery childcare for a child under two in Britain is £138.00, a rise of 4 per cent since 2020
  • The average price for 50 hours per week of nursery childcare for a three or four year old in England is £102.00 - assuming the family receive 30 hours funded childcare per week and pay for 20 hours of childcare

Almost all families will receive some Government financial support to help them manage these costs, including Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours funded childcare for three and four year olds introduced in 2017.

Sufficiency of childcare

  • Around two thirds of Local Authorities in England have enough childcare for parents working full time (68 per cent). This is a significant improvement from last year, but has mainly been driven by lower use of childcare
  • In England around 25 per cent of Local Authorities have enough childcare for disabled children
