Keynote Speaker
Learning Behaviours: Supporting the Development of Self-regulation in the Early Years
In this interactive and engaging keynote, Sue Cowley an Independent Consultant, Presenter and Author of more than 30 books on education and parenting will explore how self-regulation develops and how we can support the children with the process of learning behaviours in our settings. She will examine why it is so important for children to develop their self-regulation skills, discussing some of the ways in which the pandemic might have impacted this process. She will also look at ways in which adults can support children's social and emotional wellbeing by using co-regulation and building trusting relationships.

*All delegates will have the opportunity to attend two workshops*

Workshop 1 - Understanding and supporting attachment in the early years

In this workshop, Pippa Henstock will help you to understand the basics of attachment theory and how to recognise children with differing attachment styles in early years settings.

The workshop will also explore strategies and approaches to help children with attachment needs to feel safe, seen, soothed and secure in setting; specifically focussing on the role of the key adult(s) in providing attunement, co-regulation and a safe, secure base for the child.

Delivered by Pippa Henstock (Assistant Educational Psychologist for Bolton EPS service)

Workshop 2 - A practical guide to self-regulation in the early years

In this workshop, Sue Cowley will share effective approaches to support and build children's self-regulation skills. She will examine the need for clarity and consistency of approach, with caring, supportive adults helping children to build agency, learn pro-social behaviours and feel safe to express their emotions. This session will be full of practical ideas for approaches and activities that support children's social and emotional wellbeing.

Delivered by Independent Consultant, Presenter and Author, Sue Cowley.

Workshop 3 - A mindfulness approach in early years

Mini Minds Matter is an approach developed by a Bolton provider and adopted by early years settings nationally.

Do you want to know how to calm a child... Show them how to quieten their mind... Support their well-being daily... See how affirmations can impact positive mindset? If so, then this is the workshop for you. Join us, Mini Minds Matter, to see how you as a professional can make a difference to the mini minds around you.

Delivered by Julie Robinson and Mandy Worsley of Mini Minds Matter UK Ltd.
